Social documentaries – take a look at peoples lives

With the recent update, we have added many social documentaries to Geo Tube. They can give you an insight, on how people live in other parts of the world. Social documentaries range from everyday examples to the negative sides of life. You will experience the same spread on Geo Tube, if you focus on the yellow symbols, marking documentaries about people & culture.

From Alaska to Zimbabwe – how people live in different parts of the world

The channels of VICE an Al Jazeera have a broad variety of documentaries about social life and culture. Their teams visit countries all around the world, to document, what affect the people and how they live. That living is not always fun and games, can be seen in almost all parts of the world. A documentary from Zimbabwe shows you the impact of drug trafficking and the HIV-epidemic in the country. On the other side of the world, at the northern end of North-America, you can find out, what´s making the life of the indigenous people harder and harder. Here, the climate change impacts the peoples lives on a daily basis. Due to rising temperatures, the ice has vanished. As a result, the ocean is threatening to wash away the settlements, which are located near the shore. Also, hunting and fishing is getting harder, as the traditional methods can’t be used anymore.

A look behind closed doors

Not all aspects of social life are right away visible to everybody. For example, there are villages of a highly religious groups deep in the Russian forest, in the far east of the country. They call themselves the “old believers”. They have their own rules and laws and through this interesting documentary, you can take a look at their secretive life. Finally, some documentaries focus on what the future will hold for us. An exciting view on this was once again brought to us by VICE. They visited the Mauna Loa volcano on Hawaii, where the NASA is conducting a simulation. Completely sealed from outsiders, a few scientists are simulating, how it will be, to live on the Mars.
